Route overview

The Acela from Boston to New York travels through the USA's New England region, through cities like Providence and New Haven, before arriving in the Big Apple. The total journey covers 231 miles (370 kilometers) in just over 3.5 hours. Alternatively, the Amtrak Northeast Regional runs the same route in slightly more time but with lower prices. While flights and buses from Boston to New York are available, the comfort, onboard food, and stunning views make the train my preferred choice. On Omio, you can compare train, flight, and bus options, making it a great way to get an overview of all the options.

Both Boston and New York’s train stations are located right in the heart of their respective cities. In Boston, simply wait for your train’s departure to be announced, and then it’s just a short walk to the covered platforms. The Acela is designed to make the ride smooth and comfortable. Thanks to the free Wi-Fi that remained fairly reliable through the journey and great views, my trip flew by. You’ll see the Connecticut coastline from the left. Soon, we arrived at New York Penn Station, right by the Empire State Building and Times Square. If you’re looking for comfort and convenience, the Amtrak Acela train from Boston to New York is a clear winner.

Boston South Station: Located right downtown and connected by metro to Harvard (via transfer) and the airport (via Silver Line). Snap a pic of the beautiful old station building, and then get something tasty from the food court inside.

If you prefer the city, choose a seat on the right for the magnificent Manhattan skyline. All the seats are super soft, so you’ll find yourself fully relaxed. Just remember to walk around and get a snack! For a closer look at the train and journey, check out this short video I made, showcasing the large Business Class seats, the beautiful station in Boston, and the stunning views of the ocean and city.
